Penn, Warsaw and Culver Academies each captured sectional titles in boys track Thursday night setting up what should be an outstanding regional next Thursday night in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week.

PENN SECTIONAL

Penn won five individual sectional titles and took 1st place in all three relays as the Kingsmen won the team sectional title on their home track.

Saint Joe finished 2nd as a team with Mishawaka 3rd.

The top performer of the meet was Saint Joe junior Will Elick who won both hurdles races and finished runner up in the long jump. Elick set a new school record in the 300m hurdles with a winning time of 38.35 seconds. He is the defending regional champion in the event. Elick also repeated as sectional champion in the 100m hurdles, winning in 14.58 seconds.

Elick finished 2nd in the long jump to Mishawaka’s Leon Fowler.

Marian junior Landon Weist did something no Marian boys runner has done in a very long time—win a sectional title in boys track as he took first place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.41 seconds.

Goshen Sectional

Warsaw won the first four events of the night to capture the team sectional championship at Goshen.

Defending state champion Jordan Randall went 7-0 in the high jump, Tucker Reed won the pole vault (15-0) and long jump (22-11) and Zander Bail won the 110m hurdles in 14.87 seconds.

Northridge’s Baylor Miller fought off a week-long flu bug to win three sectional titles, capture the blue ribbon in the the 800m run (1:54.20) and 1600m run (4:24.42) as well as capping the night by capturing gold in the 4x400m relay.

His performance helped Northridge finish 2nd while Elkhart was 3rd in the team competition.

Elkhart’s Alonzo Newbern dominated the sprints, winning sectionals in the 100m (10.63), 200m (sectional record of 21.76) and anchoring a sectional record in the 4x100m relay (41.95).

East Noble Sectional

It was no surprise at the East Noble sectional that Westview senior Noah Bontrager won both the 1600m and 3200m runs while also being part of Westview’s 4x800m relay win.

Bontrager is the defending state champion in both the 1600m and 3200m run and should be on a fabulous performance at the Warsaw Regional next Thursday on the Sports Michiana Game of the Week.

Teammate Dallas Yoder took first in the 200m and 400m dashes.
