Sports Michiana Enters New Era with Production Trailer Purchase and Addition of Matthew Florian

Last Updated: August 3, 2026By

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Sports Michiana is continuing to invest in the future of high school sports coverage throughout Michiana with two major announcements: the purchase of its professional television production trailer and the addition of Matthew Florian as the company’s new Director of Broadcast Operations.

The moves represent another significant milestone for Sports Michiana, which launched in 2024 with a mission to showcase local student-athletes with high broadcasts they deserve.

Investing in the Future

When Sports Michiana launched two years ago, one of the biggest questions was, “How do we produce live games at the level we envision?”

The answer came from Gary Martin and Michiana Video.

Gary provided the professional production trailer that became the foundation of Sports Michiana’s broadcasts. For the past two seasons, that trailer has traveled throughout Northern Indiana and Southwest Michigan, helping deliver the multi-camera productions, instant replay, professional graphics and television-quality broadcasts viewers have come to expect.

Now, Sports Michiana is proud to announce that the production trailer has officially been purchased and is a permanent part of the company’s operation moving forward.

“This trailer has been the backbone of our broadcasts since the beginning,” said Sports Michiana co-founder Angelo Di Carlo. “Gary gave us the opportunity to produce games at the level we envisioned. We’re incredibly grateful for his support, his friendship and everything he has done to help Sports Michiana be where it is today.”

While the trailer is now officially part of Sports Michiana’s operation, Gary’s involvement with the team will continue. He will help train Florian, provide guidance and serve as a consultant throughout the upcoming season.

“Having Gary continue to be involved is incredibly valuable,” said Di Carlo. “His knowledge, experience and understanding of what we do has been a huge part of our success. We’re excited that Matt will be able to learn from the person who built all the components of the trailer.”

Welcoming Matthew Florian

Along with the production trailer purchase, Sports Michiana is excited to welcome Matthew Florian as its new Director of Broadcast Operations.

While fans will continue to see and hear Chuck Freeby and Angelo Di Carlo every Friday night, Florian will lead the behind-the-scenes production efforts that bring each broadcast to life.

Florian brings a wealth of experience in sports broadcasting, storytelling, and production. He spent years leading the broadcast program at LaVille High School and has worked on the broadcast production teams for the University of Notre Dame, the South Bend Cubs, and alongside Angelo on broadcasts at Redeemer Radio.

For Florian, joining Sports Michiana represents the opportunity to continue doing what he loves while helping tell the stories of local student-athletes.

“I’ve been passionate about sports, storytelling, and broadcast technology since high school,” Florian said. “The chance to work full-time in the field I’m so passionate about is tremendous, but to work alongside Chuck and Ang is truly a blessing. The ‘Game of the Week’ has been a fixture in Michiana for years, and I’m thrilled to be able to join the team highlighting the hard work of student-athletes across the communities we serve.”

As Director of Broadcast Operations, Florian will oversee production operations, our talented production crew, help continue improving the broadcast experience, and play a key role in Sports Michiana’s continued growth.

Continuing the Tradition

Since launching in 2024, Sports Michiana has quickly become the area’s leader in live high school sports coverage, producing broadcasts featuring multiple camera angles, instant replay, professional announcers, and television-quality production.

Games are streamed live on IHSAA TV, YouTube & Facebook, with regular-season broadcasts also available on WSBT’s YouTube and Facebook channels.

The purchase of the production trailer and the addition of Matthew Florian reflect Sports Michiana’s continued commitment to investing in the people, technology and resources needed to provide first-class coverage of local student-athletes.

From the beginning, the goal has remained the same: give Michiana’s athletes, schools, and communities the coverage they deserve.

The 2026 football season is right around the corner, with Sports Michiana’s first broadcast scheduled for Friday, August 21.

Fans will also have the opportunity to see which matchups will kick off this year’s coverage when Sports Michiana announces its first four football broadcasts on Wednesday.

The next chapter begins now.
