(Indianapolis) —  Only the die-hard race fans were familiar with Corey Heim entering Sunday’s Brickyard 400.

Now, he has won at racing’s most revered venue.

Driving a part-time schedule for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing, the 24-year-old Georgia native raced to victory in his first career Brickyard 400 start at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

On the final restart with 34 laps to go, Heim took the lead from his boss Hamlin with a bold block into turn two. He then held off Christopher Bell and Joey Logano in the closing laps to seal his second career victory.

Heim picked up his first Cup Series win in San Diego last month in just his 13th career start. Continuing his part-time schedule at the Brickyard, Heim now has two victories in 15 tries. A.J. Foyt is the only other driver to win twice in his first 15 starts.

Heim will be a full-time driver next year for 23XI Racing in a promotion that he’s clearly proven to be ready for. Heim is only the fourth driver to win multiple Cup Series races before their first full-time season, joining Darrell Waltrip, Tim Richmond and Davey Allison.

At 24 years old, Heim is the youngest driver to win the Brickyard 400 since Jeff Gordon did so at 23 years old in the first edition of the race in 1994.

Behind Heim, Bell and Logano, the top-five was rounded out by Chase Briscoe and Hamlin.
