Before Friday’s night clash at Sharpe Stadium, Tippecanoe Valley head coach Steve Moriarty said a win over Jimtown at Jimtown would be ‘historic’ for his program.

With 1st place in the Indiana Northern State Conference on the line, Valley got that historic 17-15 win in a down to the wire thriller in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week.

The Vikings improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Indiana Northern State Conference.

Senior Owen Omondi set the tone, scoring all 11 points in the 1st half. He rushed for the game’s first touchdown in the 2nd quarter, added a 2 point conversion and then booted a field goal as time expired on the half as Valley led 11-0 at the break. Omondi finished with 76 yards rushing on 10 carries and was our Hoosier Crane Player of the Game.

Jimtown coach Cody Vincent challenged his team to come out with a fight in the 2nd half and that’s what the Jimmies did, scoring the next 15 points to take the lead. Nash Hamby was excellent, rushing 16 times for 122 yards while also making a 26 yard catch. Cameron Inbody hit Murphy DiPiro on a gorgeous 26 yard touchdown pass to put Jimtown up 15-11 in the 3rd. It was our Big C Lumber Big Play of the Game.

But it was poor snaps on special teams that did Jimtown in. A high snap on a punt late in the 3rd quarter gave Valley the momentum back as they took over inside the Jimtown 5 yard line. Quarterback Hunter Randall followed his big offensive line in for a QB sneak for a touchdown early in the 4th quarter as Valley regained the lead at 17-15.

Jimtown lined up for a field goal in the final minutes but another poor snap resulted in the Jimmies never getting the kick off and Valley secured the win.

Jimtown falls to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the INSC with the loss.
