What are the odds? The final week of the regular season brings a matchup between two undefeated teams, with a conference championship on the line.

Warsaw and Northridge are both 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Northern Lakes Conference play, setting up a showdown Friday night in Middlebury for the NLC title. Class 5A No. 1 Warsaw travels to take on Class 4A No. 7 Northridge in the Sports Michiana Game of the Week in one of the biggest games of the high school football season.

Warsaw has been tested along the way. The Tigers opened the season with three straight close victories, edging Snider 33-30, Northrop 29-28 and NorthWood 27-22. Since then, they have combined explosive offense with dominant defense, rolling past Mishawaka, Wawasee, Goshen and Plymouth before surviving another challenge last week in a 37-29 win over Concord. Warsaw is averaging 38 points per game while allowing just 15.8.

Northridge has been putting up even bigger numbers. The Raiders are averaging 46.3 points per game and have been especially explosive in recent weeks. After opening with a 62-32 win over West Noble and a one-point victory over Columbia City, Northridge rolled past Goshen and Wawasee before defeating Concord 28-11 on the Sports Michiana Game of the Week on September 18. The Raiders followed that with a 43-6 win over Plymouth and a narrow 38-35 victory over Mishawaka before making another statement last week, crushing rival NorthWood 45-7.

Now, all of that sets up a winner-take-all finish to the NLC race. Both teams have navigated eight games without a loss, but only one will finish the regular season as conference champion.

The postseason picture is already taking shape, too. Warsaw has a first-round bye in Class 5A Sectionals and opens at home October 30 against Fort Wayne Wayne. Northridge begins Class 4A Sectional 18 play next week with a rematch against Mishawaka.

But first, there’s one more regular-season game — and a conference championship to decide.

The Sports Michiana Game of the Week kicks off Friday at 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.
