It was a dogfight in Nappanee well into the third quarter, but NorthWood eventually capitalized on too many Plymouth mistakes to pull away for a 49-8 victory in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week in the Class 4A Sectional 18 opener.

NorthWood senior quarterback Ethan Miller rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns while completing 11-of-17 passes for 188 yards and two more scores. His performance earned him A&M Roofing and Waterproofing Player of the Game honors.

NorthWood led just 7-6 with 45 seconds remaining in the first half before Miller ran for a touchdown to give the Panthers a 14-6 halftime advantage.

The Panthers recovered an onside kick to open the third quarter, and Miller found the end zone again to extend the lead to 21-6. Plymouth later scored its finals points on a safety to cut the deficit to 21-8, but NorthWood responded by scoring the final 28 points of the game to secure the victory.

NorthWood improves to 6-4 and will travel to Culver Academies next Friday for the Class 4A Sectional 18 semifinals.

Plymouth’s season comes to an end with a 2-8 record.
