Ivey’s Irish Double Up JMU to improve to 3-0
Hannah Hidalgo led Notre Dame in scoring but it was freshman Kate Koval who stepped up in a big way when Liatu King was shaken up and left the game as the Irish women’s basketball team smothered James Madison 92-46 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Koval, a 6-5 freshman, dominated with 16 rebounds and six blocked shots to go along with 14 points. Her presence inside allowed the Irish to nearly outscore JMU in the paint alone as the Irish totaled 44 points inside.
King scored 11 points but left the game and went to the locker room with trainers after being shaken up early in the 4th quarter and did not return.
Hidalgo led all scores 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Oliva Miles finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in the win.
Cassan Prosper added 11 points, giving Notre Dame five players in double figures.
The Irish jumped out to a 21-11 lead after one quarter and were up 47-23 at the half. The outscored James Madison by 10 points in every quarter.
Notre Dame will not play its next game in South bend until December 5th. The Irish are at Lafayette on November 17th, at USC on November 23rd and then play in the Cayman Islands Classic on November 29th and 30th.
