Warsaw takes NLC lead in Friday Night prep roundup
Mydin Burgher and Sam Lara are better known for soccer than basketball at Warsaw. Friday night, they showed their shotmaking abilities cross over well.
Burgher tied a career-high with 15 and Lara poured in a career-high 13 as 4A #6 Warsaw handled 3A #5 NorthWood, 61-49, in our Sports Michiana Game of the Week. The triumph gives the Tigers sole possession of first place in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Penn didn’t have a single player in double figures, but managed to scratch out a 43-31 win over Adams, maintaining its grip on first place in the Northern Indiana Conference.
In the Indiana Northern State Conference, Ed Potter’s bucket with 3.8 seconds left in overtime lifts Jimtown to a 56-54 win over archrival Bremen. Branden King scored 2 points with 15 rebounds as the Jimmies are now 4-0 in the league. That keeps them tied with Tippecanoe Valley, as the Vikings pounded LaVille, 50-33.
On the girls side, the top-ranked team in Class 1A, Michigan City Marquette, held off Culver Academy 43-39. Lanai Davis scored 13 to lead the 18-4 Blazers.
