Ivey traded to Bulls
Former Marian, LaLumiere and Purdue basketball star Jaden Ivey has been playing in the NBA fairly close to home with the Detroit Pistons.
Now he’ll be even closer.
The South Bend native was traded Tuesday from the Pistons to the Chicago Bulls as part of a three-team deal. Ivey and Minnesota guard Mike Conley go to the Bulls. Detroit receives Bulls players Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric, as well as a 2026 first-round draft pick from Minnesota.
The 23-year-old Ivey was the fifth pick overall of the 2022 NBA Draft. He missed the start of the season following arthroscopic knee surgery in October. He has played in just 33 games, and is averaging just 8.2 points and 16.8 minutes per game this season. His contract — and all the contracts of the players involved in the deal — is set to expire at the end of the season.
Conley is another former Hoosier high school star, helping guide Lawrence North to three state titles in the early 2000’s. The 38-year-old is not expected to log much playing time in a crowded Bulls backcourt.
As for the Pistons, Huerter gives them a much-needed long-range shooter. The Pistons lead the Eastern Conference by 5-1/2 games.
The Bulls also traded center Nikola Vucevic and a second-round pick to Boston for Anfernee Simons and a second-round pick.
