(Notre Dame) —  With Makayla Cowles suffering from illness, Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Niele Ivey went back to a six-player rotation.  To say everyone contributed would be an understatement.

All six Irish players scored in double figures, as Notre Dame snapped Virginia Tech’s eight-game win streak with an 80-70 victory at Purcell Pavilion.

The win lifts the Irish to 15-8 overall, 7-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Turnovers and free throw shooting were the big difference makers in this one. Notre Dame committed only seven turnovers, while harassing the Hokies into 21 miscues. And when the Irish got to the charoty line, they took advantage, nailing 18 of 19 free throws.

Balance was also key. All-American Hannah Hidalgo led the Irish with 16 points and stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, six steals and five assists. Cass Prosper, Iyana Moore and Gisela Sanchez each finished with 14 points.

In just her second game back from injury, KK Bransford provided a big spark off the bench, scoring 11 while adding six rebounds. Vanessa de Jesus also totaled 11 points to go along with five assists.

Tech held a 68-66 lead with four minutes left before Prosper hit the game-tying and go-ahead shots on consecutive possessions, sparking a 10-0 run to put the game away.

Notre Dame now returns to the road, traveling to Charlottesville to take on Virginia at 2 p.m. Sunday.
