Three teams from the Sports Michiana coverage area in Southwest Michigan claimed boys basketball district championships Friday night.

At Berrien Springs, Brenden Olsen scored 27 and Donovyn Williams added 22 as Niles rallied in the second half to upset Benton Harbor, 71-65 for a Division 2 district crown. The win gives Niles coach Mark Haase a championship in his first year at the helm.

It was a good night for hoops fans in the “City of Four Flags” as Niles southern neighbor, Brandywine, nabbed a Division 3 district crown with a 62-47 triumph over Cassopolis. Nate Knapp’s Bobcats hope to repeat the tourney trail that took them to a state championship two years ago.

In Division 4, New Buffalo held off a big comeback from Eau Claire, before the Bison beat the Beavers, 69-63. Lucas Forkers had a huge night, rolling in 25 points to go with 18 rebounds.
