(Goshen) — According to the Goshen school board agenda, Warsaw junior varsity coach Griffin Heckaman will be the new head football coach at Goshen High School, pending board approval.

Matt Lucas of The Goshen News first reported the story Tuesday morning.

Heckaman’s name appears as a hiring on the agenda for Monday’s board meeting. He would also be hired as a work-based learning teacher at the high school.

Goshen is in the Northern Lakes Conference, and Heckaman has a pedigree in the league. He grew up in Wakarusa and played for Scott Hoover and Nate Andrews at NorthWood High School. He graduated from NorthWood  in 2014 before earning his degree from Ball State in 2018. For the last three years, he had been coaching at Warsaw under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Bart Curtis.

Heckaman will be Goshen’s fourth head coach since 2021, trying to reshape a program that has not had a winning season since 2016. Last year, the RedHawks went 2-8 under Joey Hecklinski, who resigned.

Goshen plays in Class 5A and has not won a sectional game since 2017.
