Shaffer resigns four months into Plymouth football job

(Plymouth) — On January 6, Plymouth’s school board named Ron Shaffer as the school’s head football coach.

Less than five months later, they’ll have to find a replacement.

Shaffer unexpectedly resigned as the Rockies’ football boss Wednesday, never having coached a game with his new team. Shaffer told Plymouth administrators his decision “did not come lightly” and came after “careful consideration”.

Shaffer came to Plymouth after five successful years as the head coach at Rochester, where he went 39-13 with two Three Rivers Conference championships.

When Shaffer took the job he stated in the Plymouth press release “What excites me about Plymouth Football was the culture and commitment to continued development of the program.”
