(Plymouth) — Plymouth has one of northern Indiana’s top basketball traditions. In the end, that was the difference-maker for Jason Breden.

Breden, who has worked his way up the coaching ladder around the area, will be named the next boys basketball coach at Plymouth High School, pending school board approval at Tuesday night’s meeting.

“Plymouth is an amazing community and the historical success of the program speaks for itself,” noted Breden in a school press release. “I loo forward to hitting the ground running and establishing a program that will bring continual success.”

Breden spent the first five season of his coaching career as an assistant to former Plymouth player Michael Edison at LaVille. From there, Breden took his first head coaching job at Argos, leading the Dragons to a Hoosier Plains Conference championship and a 42-27 mark in his three seasons.

Breden then went to Knox in 2024, which only went 12-35 in his two years, but went from four wins in his first year to eight in his second season. In March, Knox upset highly-favored Winamac in the opening round of the sectional.

Breden succeeds Greg Miller, who coached two seasons before leaving Plymouth to take a job in private business. While Plymouth has won state championships in 1982 and 2007, the Pilgrims have not won a sectional since 2013 and has not had a winning season since 2018-19.
