Moore, Onye trending upward for BYU

(Notre Dame) — Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman said Thursday both All-America cornerback Leonard Moore and defensive tackle Jason Onye are trending towards playing in Saturday night’s clash with #8 BYU in Provo.

“They’ve both got some practice reps in,” noted Freeman. “They know that game plan. If they keep trending in the direction they’re going, we’re expecting them to hopefully help us on Saturday.”

Moore has been out since suffering a concussion in the fourth quarter of the North Carolina game two weeks ago. Onye is making his way back from injuring his ankle against Wisconsin.

The Irish want as much talent available as possible against a Cougar team led by 6-2, 230-pound dual-threat quarterback Bear Bachmeier, whom Freeman recruited.

“You see him on film in high school, he had a strong arm,” recalled Freeman. “He was a gifted quarterback that had strengths in the run and the pass. He comes from a great family. His brother at that time was at Stanford and now they’re both at BYU. I’m not surprised he’s having this success.”

Along with Bachmeier, the Irish will need to prepare for a raucous crowd in Provo. However, Notre Dame should be confident, winning 17 of their last 19 road games.

“Our execution will dictate how loud the crowd gets. We’ve got great leadership that understand how to prepare the right way.”

Notre Dame and BYU kickoff at 7:30 Saturday night on ABC.  Get ready for the game by listening to Notre Dame Federal Credit Union’s “Irish Football Fix” on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/7wf73qPiiwlbmLxGh4uklY) or Apple (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/irish-football-fix/id1702976751)
