Notre Dame #10 in latest AP Poll; IU up to #8
Despite not playing on Saturday, Notre Dame dropped two spots to #10 in the latest Associated Press College Football Poll released on Sunday afternoon.
Indiana, which torched Michigan State 47-10, moved up 5 spots to #8 after improving to 9-0 on the season. Notre Dame also fell behind BYU, which remained at #9 while also being on the bye.
The fall for Notre Dame could be in part because of their marquee victory over Texas A&M taking a hit with the Aggies falling at South Carolina 44-20. Texas A&M dropped 5 spots to #15. Even so, the Irish now own two wins over top 25 teams with A&M at #15 and Louisville moving back into the Top 25 at #25 following its win over Clemson. Notre Dame rounds out the regular season at home against Florida State and Virginia, at Yankee Stadium against undefeated #18 Army and then on the road at USC.
Indiana’s #8 ranking is their highest since being #7 in 2020 and their best in a non pandemic shortened season since being as high as #4 in 1967. The Hoosiers are 9-0 for the first time in program history with games against Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue left to close out the regular season.
Of course, the Associated Press Poll means nothing when it comes to the College Football Playoff. The CFP rankings will be unveiled for the first time on Tuesday and will give a much clearer picture on where things stand for the new 12-team playoff.
Oregon (9-0) is the unanimous #1 followed by Georgia (7-1), Ohio State (7-1), Miami (9-0) and Texas (7-1).
