Warsaw, North Judson reach state football finals
For the first time in school history, Warsaw will play in the IHSAA state football finals.
The Tigers qualified for a spot in next Saturday’s 5A championship game with a 31-14 win over Merrillville Friday night at a frenzied Fisher Field. Quarterback Drew Sullivan carried the ball 33 times for 169 yards a and two touchdowns, while Cohen Heady spearheaded the defensive effort with a fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown.
Bart Curtis’ Tigers will face Decatur Central in the state championship Saturday night at 7 p.m.
North Judson will also represent Michiana, as the Blue Jays reach the state championship game for the first time since 1986 with a 46-0 shellacking of South Adams.
Kole Wilcox, the state’s leading scorer, tallied four touchdowns to lead the Blue Jays. Wilcox scored on a 40-yard fumble return as well runs of eight, seven and 39 yards as Brett Lambert’s squad posted its sixth shutout of the season.
North Judson, which has outscored opponents 757-100 this season, will face Providence in the 1A state championship at 11 am ET Saturday.
