Former Notre Dame quarterback Terry Hanratty has been named to the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.

Hanratty led Notre Dame to the 1966 national title & was an All-American in 1968.

Notre Dame lists him as the 56th former Notre Dame player or coach in the College Football Hall of Fame, the most of any school.

Former Notre Dame assistant coach Urban Meyer, who won national titles as the head coach at Florida & Ohio State, is also a part of the class as is Nick Saban, who won national titles at LSU & Alabama and was also the head coach at Toledo and Michigan State. Other notable former players in the class include Montee Ball (Wisconsin), Michael Strahan (Texas Southern), Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) and Dennis Thurman (USC).

The official induction of the 2025 Hall of Fame Class will take place December 9th in Las Vegas at the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner.

Hanratty was Notre Dame’s starting quarterback for three seasons. Upon graduation in 1969, he held the program record for completions (304), passing yards (4,152) and passing touchdowns (27). He also rushed for 586 yards and 16 touchdowns. He finished in the top-10 of Heisman Trophy voting in all three seasons as Notre Dame’s signal caller – 1966 (sixth), 1967 (ninth) and 1968 (third).

Hanratty was a 2nd round draft pick by his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969. He was the backup quarterback to Terry Bradshaw on two Super Bowl teams in Pittsburgh.
