It’s been a trademark for the Notre Dame men’s basketball team this season: get ahead in the 2nd half and blow the lead.
It was a role reversal Wednesday night in Chestnut Hill as Notre Dame rallied from 14 down in the 2nd half to force overtime and behind a career high 32 points from Markus Burton, defeated Boston College 97-94.
It was the largest deficit Notre Dame has rallied from to victory in two seasons under Micah Shrewsberry. The win snaps a 3-game losing streak. The Irish are now 11-13 overall and 5-8 in the ACC with two of those wins coming against BC.
Notre Dame led 93-88 in the 2nd overtime and then appeared on the verge of squandering it when Julian Roper was whistled for a flagrant 2 foul on a loose ball. Roper was ejected from the game. BC would make both free throws and the ensuing basket to take a 94-93 lead with 1:20 left in the 2nd overtime.
They wouldn’t score again.
Kebba Njie’s game leading 12th rebound and putback off a Burton missed shot with 16 seconds left gave the Irish the lead and Burton added two free throws in the final seconds for cushion.
Tae Davis scored 20 points while Brandon Shrewsberry added 16 in the win for the Irish.
Notre Dame returns home to host Louisville Sunday night.
