Hidalgo’s big day leads Irish past Stanford
(Palo Alto) — Hannah Hidalgo continues to cement her place in Irish history. She’d like to get the 2026 Irish a place in the NCAA tournament.
The Notre Dame guard scored 37 points with nine rebounds, as the Irish completed their West Coast swing with a 78-66 win over Stanford at Maples Pavilion Sunday afternoon.
Hidalgo’s 37 points were the most by a Notre Dame player on the road since Jewell Loyd scored 41 at DePaul on Dec. 10, 2014. Hidalgo passed Notre Dame legend Ruth Riley for fifth most career points in program history as Hidalgo now has 2,108.
After a tight first half, Stanford took its first lead since the very early stages of the game when Courtney Ogden scored two of her team-high 23 with 5:35 left in the third. Hidalgo answered with a personal 5-0 run in the span of 20 seconds to put Notre Dame back on top by four.
Hidalgo added to the lead with a fadeaway buzzer-beater at the end of the third to put Notre Dame up 58-52
Malaya Cowles hit the first two baskets of the fourth for the Irish and the game was never in doubt after that.
Cass Prosper added 14 points and eight rebounds for Notre Dame (14-8, 6-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference). The Irish return to South Bend to face a hot Virginia Tech team Thursday night with tipoff at 7 p.m.
