Northridge, Westview, Triton win boys basketball regionals
Saturday was an exciting day of Hoosier Hysteria around the area, as three schools claimed regional titles.
Sixth-ranked Northridge won its first boys basketball regional championship in school history as Scott Radeker’s Raiders rallied in the second half to beat #8 Saint Joseph, 73-67. Brady Scholl scored 33 points with 17 rebounds to lead the raiders, while point guard Freeman Schlabach added a career-high 18 points, including eight straight free throws late in the game. Third-ranked Westview also had to rally in the second half to beat #7 Gary 21st Century, 63-59. Austin Schlabach poured in 33 points to lead the Warriors to their first regional crown since 2018.
#4 Triton had the most nail-biting win of all. Landon Patrick made a steal with six seconds left and fed the ball ahead. Gage Riffle then sank a layup at the buzzer as Triton outlasted Michigan City Marquette, 53-51. That makes back-to-back regional championships for Jason Groves’ squad.
