Ancilla men’s basketball coach and longtime Marian High School assistant coach Brian Foster had successful surgery on his neck Sunday following a lengthy procedure. He is in critical condition after his car was hit by a semi on U.S. 30 late Friday night.

Foster remains in a coma and on a ventilator to assist with recovery and will have a long road ahead of him but his family tells us they are hopeful for continued progress. He’ll have an additional surgery this week.

The family is grateful for all the prayers pouring in on social media and asks that everyone continue to keep Brian in their prayers. A rosary was held at Marian High School Sunday as the surgery was taking place.

Foster had just completed his first season as the Chargers head coach.  A 2002 Riley grad and an Ancilla alum, Foster has been a longtime fixture in the basketball community. After coaching at Dickinson, Marshall, and Jackson Middle Schools, he has served as an assistant coach at Marian High School in Mishawaka since 2018. He has also served as a coach and aided player development in the grassroots/travel basketball world, most recently founding and leading the Indiana Eclipse program.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Marian Charger Athletics stated “Charger Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Foster was involved in a horrific traffic accident and continues to fight for his life. We ask that you please offer any and all thoughts and prayers you can at this time! We ask that you please respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Foster’s daughter, Nevaeh, is Marian’s all-time leading girls basketball scorer. She recently transferred to UIC for her senior season. His son, Brandon, was a senior point guard on Marian High School’s sectional championship team this season. His wife, Natasha, has been the love of his life since high school.

The family has setup a Go Fund Me to assist with hospital costs, lost wages and family daily needs. You can contribute here: https://gofund.me/232fb6614
