(Notre Dame) — In a video narrated by head coach Marcus Freeman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB3FdQYxS-I&t=1s), Notre Dame unveiled the uniforms it will wear for its 2026 Shamrock Series game, the season opener with Wisconsin, played at Green Bay’s famous Lambeau Field.

In his scripted remarks, Freeman talks about the links between the Irish and the Packers, including former Rockne player Curly Lambeau using the blueprints of Notre Dame Stadium to help create Lambeau Field. He also mentions how both teams are “outliers”, based in small towns but reaching the highest pinnacle of success.

The original “Acme Packers” wore a deep blue in the 1920’s, which will be used in these uniforms as well. Gold stripes on the sleeves are a nod to the current Packers. In a rarity, the players will have their last names on the back of the uniform and will wear custom-made gold and blue cleats.

There are also some interesting details in the jerseys. 11 golden shamrocks around the collar represent Notre Dame’s 11 consensus national championships. The style of the numbers goes back to the Paul Hornung era, a Notre Dame Heisman Trophy winner who went on NFL stardom with the Packers. The gold jersey numbers feature a structural block shape, with a mesh pattern meant to resemble the “Oval-G” pattern in the Green Bay logo. There is also a gold-embossed American flag patch to honor the country’s 250th anniversary of independence.

Notre Dame plays Wisconsin Sunday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised by NBC.
